Security

Security is a fragmented category with no single consensus pick. Crowdstrike captures the most AI attention in discovery prompts — showing up in four out of five buyer queries about security software — but Proofpoint and Mimecast each surface on every engine and win more head-to-head comparisons than they lose. Three brands sit in the absent-giant archetype: Snyk, CyberArk, and Okta all score above the category median in evaluation prompts but rarely surface in AI discovery. The category is contested — no brand owns more than half of AI attention, and the evaluation stage is split across a dozen brands with overlapping win rates.

Across 274 buyer-style "Security" queries

Crowdstrike surfaces in 81% of discovery prompts about security software and shows up on all five engines we track — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot. Proofpoint and Mimecast trail at 59% and 54% respectively, but both maintain visibility across every engine. Orca Security and ServiceNow each land in roughly a third of buyer queries, while 1Password, Vanta, and Drata cluster in the 24-29% band — all visible on every engine but far behind Crowdstrike in raw query share.

Evaluation stage

Head-to-head

How often AI cites each brand across uniform category evaluation prompts · median 57/100

When buyers ask AI to compare security tools head-to-head, no single brand dominates. Abnormal Security and Qualys CyberSecurity Asset Management each win more matchups than they lose, averaging 67 across comparison queries. BeyondTrust Privileged Remote Access, Lacework, and Mimecast all score 65-66 — right at the category median. Wiz and Proofpoint surface in the most head-to-head prompts but average 63, below the median, meaning both lose more comparisons than they win despite high query volume.

Buyer questions

What AI cites for top Security questions

Most queries are top-of-funnel exploration — buyers ask AI for the best security tools by company size, vertical, or specific threat vector ('good SIEM options for businesses with under 50 employees', 'top endpoint protection software for startups in the seed stage'). A smaller slice digs into trust and compliance ('SOC 2 compliant security software', 'industry-leading security platforms by reputation'). Pricing and ROI questions make up the tail ('how much does security software cost', 'easiest security tools to onboard').
